Terms of Service
Effective date: 11 May 2026 Last updated: 11 May 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the website at mytijarah.co.uk and the services offered through it (the "Service"). The Service is provided by My Tijarah Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 17210223 and registered office at 20 Wenlock Road, London N1 7GU ("My Tijarah", "we", "us", "our").
By creating an account, booking a lesson, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Definitions
- "Student" — a user who books lessons through the Service.
- "Teacher" — a user who offers tutoring services through the Service.
- "Lesson" — a one-to-one online tutoring session arranged through the Service.
- "Lesson Price" — the price the Teacher has set for a Lesson.
- "Service Fee" — the line item added to the Student's checkout total, shown separately. It covers card-processing costs.
- "Platform Fee" — the fee retained by My Tijarah out of the Lesson Price.
- "Booking" — a confirmed reservation of a Lesson, including any payment.
- "Package" — a group of Lessons booked together.
- "Wallet Credit" — non-cash credit held in a Student's account, redeemable against future Bookings.
2. Eligibility and account registration
To use the Service you must be:
- at least 16 years old (or, if under 18, using the Service with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf);
- legally able to enter a contract under the law of your jurisdiction; and
- not located in a jurisdiction subject to UK or international sanctions that prevent us from providing services to you.
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for activity under your account. Notify us at support@mytijarah.co.uk immediately if you suspect unauthorised access.
3. The Service
My Tijarah is an online platform that connects Students with Teachers for one-to-one tutoring Lessons. We provide booking, payment-collection, scheduling, and messaging tools.
We do not provide tutoring services ourselves. The tutoring contract is between the Student and the Teacher (see clause 11).
4. Bookings
When you book a Lesson, you are entering into a contract with the Teacher to receive tutoring services at the agreed time. We facilitate that booking on the Teacher's behalf.
A Booking is created in pending status when you initiate checkout and is confirmed once payment is successfully processed. If payment is not completed within 30 minutes, the Booking is automatically released and the time slot is made available again.
Times shown are in your local time zone unless stated otherwise.
5. Payments — Students
5.1 What you pay
At checkout you pay:
- the Lesson Price set by the Teacher; plus
- a Service Fee, shown as a separate line item.
Your total appears clearly before you confirm. We do not hide fees in the Lesson Price.
5.2 Currency
By default, charges are in GBP regardless of where you are located. Your card issuer may apply a foreign-transaction fee or currency-conversion charge — that is between you and your bank.
5.3 Payment method
Payments are processed by Stripe Payments UK, Ltd. By submitting payment details, you authorise us (acting as agent for the Teacher — see clause 11) and Stripe to charge your selected payment method for the total shown.
If your card requires Strong Customer Authentication (3D Secure), your bank will prompt you for verification during checkout.
5.4 Failed payments
If payment fails, your Booking remains pending and you may retry. After 30 minutes, the Booking is automatically released.
6. Cancellations, refunds and wallet credits
Cancellations and refunds are governed by our Refund Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
In summary:
- More than 12 hours before a Lesson: you receive a Wallet Credit by default, or may opt for a card refund. Only the Lesson Price is credited or refunded; the Service Fee is non-refundable.
- Less than 12 hours before a Lesson: no credit or refund unless an exception applies.
- If a Teacher cancels or fails to attend, you receive a full Wallet Credit for the Lesson Price (plus 25% goodwill credit if it was a Teacher no-show).
See the Refund Policy for full details, including how to request a refund instead of credit.
7. Wallet Credits
Wallet Credits:
- can be applied to future Bookings on the Service;
- expire 12 months after issue if unused;
- are non-transferable;
- have no cash value and cannot be withdrawn (except where issued as part of a refund processed back to your original payment method).
8. Conduct and acceptable use
You agree not to:
- impersonate any person or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or organisation;
- use the Service to harass, threaten, or abuse any other user;
- share content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, hateful, or infringes another person's rights;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service or to other users' accounts;
- use the Service in any manner that could damage, disable, or impair it;
- circumvent the Service to transact with Teachers off-platform in a way that avoids the Platform Fee.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach this clause without notice (see clause 16).
9. Content and intellectual property
You retain ownership of content you post (such as messages and profile details). By posting it on the Service you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, and make it available to other users as needed to operate the Service.
You must not post content you do not have the right to share.
The Service itself, including all underlying software, design, and branding, is owned by My Tijarah or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. You receive a limited, revocable, non-exclusive licence to use it solely for its intended purpose.
10. Teacher Terms
This clause applies if you register as a Teacher.
10.1 Appointment of agent
By offering Lessons on the Service, you appoint My Tijarah as your commercial agent for the limited purpose of:
- displaying your profile and Lesson offerings to potential Students;
- collecting payment from Students on your behalf;
- holding those funds for your account; and
- forwarding the funds to you (less the Platform Fee) in accordance with these Terms.
10.2 Identity and onboarding (KYC)
Before any payout, you must complete identity verification. You agree to provide:
- your full legal name as it appears on government-issued identification;
- date of birth;
- residential address;
- proof of identity (passport or national ID);
- bank account details in your own name; and
- the country in which you reside for tax purposes.
We may decline to onboard, suspend, or terminate Teacher accounts based on the outcome of sanctions, identity, or anti-money-laundering checks.
10.3 Pricing
You set your own Lesson Price. We do not require any minimum or maximum, but reserve the right to disable Lesson listings whose pricing appears to be intentionally misleading.
10.4 Platform Fee
We retain a Platform Fee from the Lesson Price. The standard Platform Fee is 15% of the Lesson Price. We may vary this rate in the future by publishing updated terms; any change applies only to Bookings created after the change takes effect. Existing Bookings keep the rate that applied when they were created.
10.5 Payouts
Payouts are made on a bi-weekly cycle (typically the 1st and 15th of each month) to your verified bank account. You may also request an on-demand payout subject to the conditions published in the Teacher dashboard.
Payouts are processed via Wise Payments Ltd (or another payout provider we may use). Currency conversion, where applicable, is performed at the FX rate available at the time of payout and is recorded on your payout statement.
10.6 Negative balance and chargebacks
If a Lesson is refunded, charged back, or otherwise reversed after we have paid you for it, you are responsible for repaying the amount.
We may:
- deduct the amount from your next payout;
- recover it from other balances held by you on the Service; or
- if the balance remains outstanding for more than 60 days and exceeds £100, treat it as a debt payable to us, which we may pursue through legal channels.
10.7 Independence
You are an independent contractor, not an employee, worker, agent (except as set out in clause 10.1), or partner of My Tijarah. You are responsible for your own taxes, social-security contributions, and any professional registrations required in your country.
10.8 Conduct
You must conduct Lessons professionally, on time, and in line with any safeguarding policies we publish. We may suspend Teacher accounts following complaints or evidence of misconduct pending review.
10.9 Off-platform circumvention
You agree not to solicit, encourage, or accept payment for tutoring services from a Student you originally met through the Service, otherwise than through the Service, for a period of 12 months from your last Booking with that Student. Breach of this clause may result in termination and recovery of fees we would otherwise have earned.
11. The agent relationship
My Tijarah Ltd acts as agent of the teacher in collecting payment on the teacher's behalf. The contract for tutoring services is between the student and the teacher. My Tijarah Ltd is not a party to the tutoring contract.
This positioning means:
- We collect Lesson Prices from Students on the relevant Teacher's behalf.
- The Teacher is the principal party in the tutoring contract; we are not.
- Funds collected from Students are held by us for the Teacher's account until they are paid out.
- We do not provide tutoring services and are not liable for the quality, content, or outcome of any Lesson.
12. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties not expressly stated in these Terms, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not guarantee:
- that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from security flaws;
- the accuracy or suitability of any Teacher's profile, qualifications, or content; or
- the outcome of any Lesson or course of study.
You use the Service at your own risk.
13. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded by law (including liability for death, personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).
Subject to that:
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive losses, including loss of profits, revenue, data, or reputation.
- Our total aggregate liability arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service in any 12-month period is capped at the greater of (a) the total fees you paid to us in that 12-month period, or (b) £100.
14. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold My Tijarah harmless from any claim, loss, damage, or expense (including reasonable legal costs) arising out of or related to:
- your breach of these Terms;
- your use of the Service;
- the content you post on the Service; and
- in the case of Teachers, the Lessons you provide to Students.
15. Privacy
Our handling of personal data is described in our Privacy Policy.
16. Suspension and termination
You may close your account at any time by contacting support@mytijarah.co.uk. We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if:
- you breach these Terms;
- we are required to do so by law or by a payment provider, regulator, or court;
- your account presents fraud, sanctions, or compliance risk; or
- we cease operating the Service.
On termination:
- pending Bookings will be cancelled and processed as Wallet Credits or refunds in accordance with the Refund Policy;
- outstanding Teacher payouts (less any negative balance) will be paid out at the next scheduled cycle following identity reconfirmation; and
- clauses intended to survive termination (including 10.6, 11, 12, 13, 14, 18, and 19) will continue to apply.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be notified to active users by email or via the Service at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.
18. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
19. Disputes
If you have a complaint, please contact us first at support@mytijarah.co.uk. We will respond within 14 days and try to resolve matters informally.
Disputes that are not resolved informally are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except that if you are a consumer resident in another country, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts to the extent required by applicable consumer-protection law.
